Hang on to your witch hats. A new Harry Potter video game is being released. The rumour of the Harry Potter RPG has been officially confirmed and although we will have to wait a little longer to play it, the fans are very, very excited.
A rumor finally confirmed.
If you’ve been paying attention to the news of the Harry Potter video game, you may remember that images of the Harry Potter game were released in 2018. At the time, no one had confirmed its authenticity. Since then, there have been many rumours circulating without ever having official confirmation.
But according to an article by Bloomberg
Pictures from the new game « Harry Potter » have been unveiled for the first time on Reddit.
In October 2019, Reddit user VapeThisBro posted a video he claims to have taken in a Warner Bros. newsgroup. The video (which has since been deleted, along with VapeThisBro’s Reddit account) showed images from an open world Harry Potter video game. Internet users have reposted the footage on YouTube.
According to VapeThisBro, the game takes place in the world of 19th century wizards and is a third person role-playing game. You play as a fifth grade student at Hogwarts and go on a quest to find out why mysterious things happened in the Forbidden Forest. In the game you can create potions, master spells and meet fantastic beasts. Basically, everything you wanted to do in the Harry Potter universe will be possible in this new game.

At this time, other media outlets are not confirming the above details about the game. They only confirm the rumours that the game does exist. However, the leaked images have shown some of these details, and the images are confirmed to be real, so it seems quite likely.
At the moment, the Harry Potter video game is expected to be released at the end of 2021. Bloomberg reports that it is under development at Avalanche Software of Warner Bros. in Salt Lake City, Utah. Apparently, the game will be released on several platforms, including the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X.
J.K. Rowling’s not very involved in the project.
Although she created the Harry Potter universe, the author of the literary series apparently has « very little direct involvement » in the upcoming game. For many Harry Potter fans, this is a good thing. J. K. Rowling has repeatedly found herself in a tricky situation for her support of transphobic people on Twitter, then doubled these comments via her own transphobic tweets and then tripled them in a personal transphobic essay.
According to game developers interviewed by Bloomberg (who asked to remain anonymous), the game studio’s management did not react to Rowling’s latest inflammatory comments, and the situation made some team members rather uncomfortable.
Is the game going to be as popular as books and movies ?
Rowling’s provocative stance may temper the enthusiasm of some fans for a game based on a world of his own creation. It is therefore perhaps relatively reassuring to note that Rowling is not really involved in the development of the game.
However, it is undeniable that it will benefit from the sales of the game, and this could be too much for some fans. As for the game itself, it looks like we’ll learn more about it when it’s officially announced at the DC FanDome event that will take place on August 22nd from 7pm.
